What To Drink At The Amigo Room At The Ace Hotel & Swim Club
The Ace Hotel group has made its own unique mark in major cities throughout the world—from London to Los Angeles and beyond. They note on their website that, “We like the stories that come with things and think that wherever you are, you should feel like you're there.”
Their 176-room Palm Springs location definitely fulfills that sentiment. Situated in South Palm Springs, the midcentury desert modern building was once a Westward Ho motel with a classic Denny’s restaurant attached.
The hotel’s bar, The Amigo Room at Ace Hotel & Swim Club, is known for its nightly programming from DJs to musicians to comedians. The space was actually an old ranch hand bar that's original to the hotel and was restored by Ace.
“It’s a dark desert speakeasy that gives a cool cavernous vibe, while paying homage to California through our decor such as Chuy the California brown bear overlooking the bar,” says Tim Anctil, the Ace Hotel & Swim Club’s general manager.
For first-time visitors, Anctil recommends the bar’s Desert Facial and Speedy Gonzales cocktails. The Desert Facial is made with vodka, pineapple, muddled mint, and cucumber, while the Speedy Gonzales contains tequila, lime, muddled jalapeño, and sour with a chili salt rim.
“Our crispy calamari is a great appetizer to go with the Speedy Gonzales,” adds Anctil. “And our homemade ricotta flatbread is awesome with the Desert Facial.”
