The LGBT Community Center of the Desert is part of an office building on 1301 N Palm Canyon Drive, just north of downtown. It caters to locals but visitors are more than welcome to participate in activities that include a weekly discussion group for lesbians and another for gay men. It also offers social gatherings and diverse selection of self-improvement classes ranging from yoga and 50+ exercise to Spanish language classes. The center is welcoming to visitors and locals alike. It’s a great way to meet locals outside the bar and Grindr culture.\
Palm Springs Pride, held over the first weekend of November, draws thousands of visitors to the city every year. But you don’t have to be just a spectator; you can be part of it. Pride organizers welcome volunteers to sign up for a number of four-hour shifts over the Pride weekend. You will get a volunteer T-shirt out of the deal as a memento for a job well done.
If you want to get out and enjoy the Palm Springs sunshine while joining up with the community, Palm Springs Front Runners and Walkers offer daily morning walks and weekend runs that start from Sunrise Park. It is a perfect way to socialize with locals while doing something healthy and discovering Palm Springs. The group’s name is homage to the Patricia Nell Warren gay classic, The Front Runner. It is open to lesbians, gays and their friends. Many members get together for breakfast after the walk or take part in other social events. Sign up on the group's website to pay the small annual dues.
For many, Palm Springs is synonymous with golf. The world’s biggest lesbian event, Club Skirts presents the Dinah, was named after the Dinah Shore golf tournament. The city has its own LGBT golf club, Stonewall Golfers, with year round golf events and socials.
