Winter golf is just a short flight for Western Canadians

Golf in the Canadian prairies is a fickle sport. You need to be prepared for rain, sleet, and yes even snow has fallen in the already short summer golf season. The amount of time we get to play can be far too short, but fortunately there’s a way to get your golf in during winter, and for you to get out of the snowy cold, too.

Palm Springs is just a short direct flight from many western Canadian cities like Vancouver Edmonton, and Calgary, and other centers like Regina, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg have connecting flights.  Westjet, Air Canada and Alaska Air are just three of the carriers who fly these routes.

Once in the desert, there are dozens of gorgeous public golf courses scattered through the Coachella Valley, and several in Palm Springs itself. Whether you have access to a luxurious private club or wish to play one of the fine public courses, you have great options:

Taquitz Creek Golf Resort

Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort (photo at top) is quite close to both the Palm Springs International Airport and to Downtown Palm Springs.

Featuring two championship golf courses, you have options when it comes to hitting the links here; play the traditional Legend Course or the desert style Resort Course.

Indian Canyons Golf Resort
P: 760-833-8700, 1097 East Murray Canyon Drive, Palm Springs, CA, 92264
You’ll love the views at Indian Canyons Golf Resort (photo below).  It’s circled on three sides by beautiful mountain views, which also keep it sheltered from the wind.  here too, you’ll have a choice of two different courses; the lake-rich South Course or the more traditional North Course rimmed by mid-century modern homes.

Escena Golf Club
P: 760-778-2737, 1100 Clubhouse View, Palm Springs, CA, 92262
Escena Golf Club in Palm Springs has been rated the #6 Public Course in California by PGATOUR.com. The wide open spaces of this Jack Nicklaus designed course have unobstructed sight lines, generous driving corridors and a largely minimalist design that will keep your focused on the game.

Located next to Palm Springs International Airport, Escena is a popular first or last stop for visitors.

Mesquite Golf & Country Club
P: 760-323-9377, 2700 E. Mesquite Avenue, Palm Springs, CA, 92264
Mature trees, lakes and breathtaking mountain views make Mesquite Country Club a lush track golfers keep coming back to. Nestled along a stream bed, this course features a traditional and mature 18 hole championship layout designed by Bert Stamps in 1985.

Mesquite Golf & Country Club also provides a large grass practice facility and driving range, and sprawling Spanish style clubhouse.

Coming to Palm Springs is a great warm weather winter getaway for Canadians, and for golfers, there’s an endless amount of gorgeous courses to keep you busy enjoying the desert sunshine, breezes and the palm trees.
