Tiki/mid-century modern fans rejoice! Here’s your chance to enjoy the best of both genres in one spot. The inaugural “MOD Palm Springs” weekend is October 11-13, 2013, at the Curve Hotel in Palm Springs, celebrating all things Mid-century Modern complimented by an equal amount of tasteful Tiki kitsch.
Top artists – including Shag (aka Josh Agle), who is creating a commemorative Tiki mug; Bosko, Derek Yaniger – boutique vendors of vintage Hawaiiana, apparel, furniture and more; a vintage fashion show, lectures by mid-century modern experts – and lots of live entertainment: DJs, groovy emcees, the Martini Kings and other retro-hip bands, exotic specialty cocktails and room parties make this a not-to-miss weekend.
MOD Palm Springs coincides with Modernism Week Kick-Off Weekend – “purposeful timing,” according to MOD co-organizer Rory Snyder. “We’re mid-century modern with a twist of Tiki,” he explained. “We’re giving Mid-century modern/Tiki lovers the best of both worlds. Our guests can venture off on the Modernism Week Kick-Off architectural tours – or take their own self-guided driving tours past Palm Springs iconic dwellings – and then rejoin us on-site for Tiki fun afterwards." Rory and Jay Nailor and MiShell Modern, owners of the M Modern Gallery and SHAG the Store in Palm Springs, are co-organizers of MOD Palm Springs.
Admission is free to the art displays, vendor boutiques, onsite barbecue and onsite bars. Wrist-band reservations are required to enjoy the pool scene, special events, headliner entertainment, room parties and to be on the grounds after 6:30 p.m. “Buy a wrist band and it’s all-inclusive. You can relax by the hotel pool and have entry to all the special events, attractions and parties,” Rory said.
Wrist bands and reservations at the Curve Hotel can be made at the MOD Palm Springs’ website: www.mod-palmsprings.com. I’ll see you there!
