Stay small! The intimate hotels of Palm Springs
While big hotels can offer lots of amenities, sometimes a smaller, quieter hotel is the right choice for a special getaway.
There are dozens of small hotels in Palm Springs, from family-run motels, to kitschy retro havens and everything in between. In fact, small hotels are such a fixture in Palm Springs, they’ve banded together online so you can shop for a place to stay with one click. They’ve even organized an annual "Walking Tour of the Inns” where visitors can get a look at the quaint, charming, modern and beautiful architecture and decor in these unique properties.
Small hotels tend to have anywhere from seven to thirty-four rooms, assuring a quiet stay, personalized service and even the chance to get to know your neighbors… if you wish!
Orbit In hotel
This charming motel property (photo at top) wraps around a central pool, but it’s the retro decor that steals the show. Carefully chosen pieces combine to make you think you’ve stepped back in time, but with all the modern conveniences. The best part of a stay here is cocktail hour by the pool when all the guests emerge from their rooms to gather round as the staff shake ‘Orbitinis’ as the sun goes down.
This stunner (photo at right) is a throwback to old world Spain. The inn is built around a central courtyard which features a beautiful pool and bar area. Enjoy the beautiful stonework and in-room soaker tubs (ask for a room with an outdoor whirlpool tub in private garden courtyard) or walk the grounds for that hidden Alice in Wonderland feel.
Built in the 1940’s and steps from the main drag in Palm Springs, the Chase is trip back in time. The tall walls, gorgeous garden feel and tall trees make you feel like you’re in a super secluded hideaway. Kitchenettes in the suites allow longer stays to be more economical.

Keep an eye out for the next Walking Tour of the inns, held on the second Thursday in December, which this year will be December 8, 2016.
