Get outdoors! Healthy living activities in Palm Springs
Palm Springs is a wonderful locale to be outdoors. From the stunning desert landscapes to the pleasant winter climate, being in Palm Springs makes being outside easy.
There are numerous organized activities in Palm Springs and area that can add the thrill of competition to your sporting passions, or you can just take time and enjoy being outside.
Take the Tram Road Challenge
Coming up later this month is one of Palm Springs most interesting and challenging races. The Tram Road Challenge is Saturday October 22, 2016. This 6 kilometer climb ascends 2,000 vertical feet in just over 3.7 miles. Participants can walk or run from the base to the Palm Springs Aerial Tram Station at the top. This race is so challenging, it’s known as the “toughest 6k in the world.”
The 31st annual event benefits the United Way of the Desert.
Use the bike paths
Keen to visit Palm Springs on two wheels? The City of Palm Springs makes it easy to get around safely. There are several pathways and loops to explore, from Downtown to Deepwell Canyon, and even a citywide loop that will give you a view of the nearly entire city. The City of Palm Springs has a handy printable map (here) that will get you started on your bicycle journey.
Of course you can also use your bike to explore all the modernist homes and architecture in Palm Springs. Read my previous blog on modernism, and see how to get an easy to follow map or app and start scoping out modern beauty while keeping fit and healthy.
Head out hiking
Palm Springs is a hikers paradise. From easy routes perfect for seniors or youngsters, to more challenging mountainous routes, you can explore the desert from the ground or the sky!
Not comfortable exploring the desert on your own? There are several groups and organizations that you can join up with too. Check out the various hikes and organizations by exploring the Hiking section on VisitPalmSprings.com
There are also guided adventures available from companies like Stout Adventures, which can offer simple hiking advice, or more intensive guided excursions.
Even just going for a nice long walk in the desert air is a great way to get some exercise and enjoy the spectacular views and sunsets. Why not plan an outdoor activity now (or for your upcoming vacation) to take advantage of the fabulous desert lifestyle?
